Special Note (Updated on 4/18/2002):
The Best Value Guarantee (BVG) will no longer be available on Blue after May 1, 2002. If you have Blue and want to pricematch, make sure that your purchase date is before 4/30.
Best Value Guarantee feature is still available on American Express Gold Card ($75 annual fee) and the American Express Business Gold Card (no annual fee for the first year). The BVG is well worth the annual fee - BVG saves me hundreds of dollars each year. Learn more about the features about these Gold cards, and hopefully many of you like them.
For the cards that still offer BVG, Amex will no longer pricematch A&M PhotoWorld.
Blue without BVG is still an attractive credit card, with some great benefits:

The best of American Express Blue is the Price Guarantee (Or Price Protection, Best Value Guarantee, Pricematch) it offers. The American Express Blue card will refund you the difference if the merchandise drops in price within 60 days. When you buy something, most likely the price will fall in the short future. This is especially true for electronics and computer stuffs. Now with Blue, you have confidence that you will get the lowest price in 60 days!
Here are some ways to utilize it:
1. you purchased something using Blue. If you find a lower price within 60 days, you can file a claim with Amex to get the price difference back. Sounds great? This is not the best part yet - read along!
2. The best part is here. When you want to buy something, first, search for the lowest price for the product you want to buy. Most likely the vendors that offer the lowest prices have low consumer ratings, and they have high shipping charges. You don't want to buy from them. With Blue, you can buy the product from a vendor with good reputation, then file a claim with Amex and Amex will refund the the difference between your purchase price and the lowest price you found. Blue price matching doesn't include shipping - which means you save on shipping too!
For example, say you want to buy a digital camera. You can go to Amazon since you know it is a good merchant. You pay $799 for it shipped free. Merchant X has the same camera for $619 + shipping. After you received the camera, you just print out the Merchant X website which contains the lower price, Call Blue at 1-800-557-8317 within 60 days of your purchase to file a Price Match claim. Amex Blue will give you $799 - $619 = $180 back. This is even cheaper than buying directly from Merchant X since they charge you shipping fees but Blue won't take that into account.
Isn't that cool? You can make lots of similar deals by using Blue. You are covered for up to $250 per covered item, up to $1000 per year.
You are covered for up to $250 per item, up to $1000 per year. They will not price match coupons, rebates, sales tax and shipping. So it is best to buy from a source with low shipping and without no sales tax. Here is what you should do to file a claim:
1. Call 800-557-8317 to request a price guarantee (or call it price matching). Write down the claim # that they give you.
