Review, Ativa(TM) 802.11g Wireless Cable/DSL Router With 4-Port Switch User Reviews: | | | | | Trash...worst I've encountered | | Review By: Bill541 on Dec. 31, 2007 | | Good: Cheap | | Bad: Constantly fails | Review Summary: My roommate bought this apparently under the recommendation from her "computer expert" sister. This thing was easy to set up and worked for about 3 weeks. It constantly loses the wireless side of the connection and often loses the connection completely. My Netgear and Linksys routers I've had never did this. This thing is terrible. I recommend spending a few more bucks and getting a Netgear or Linksys. I've read and heard of many other people experiencing problems similar to this. Don't bother wasting money on it. | | | | | | | This device is crap! | | Review By: Magius on Jul. 26, 2007 | | Good: Easy setup | | Bad: Worked for only 2 hours. | Review Summary: I went looking for a new wireless router, and saw this gem. I was going to shell out $50 for a Linksys router, but this one was only $25, so I cheaped out. I'll never cheap out again!
I got this baby home, and got it up and running in only 3 minutes. That's right, fully configured and setup in 3 minutes! It's got the easiest configuration wizard I have ever seen for a Router.
After that things went smoothly for about two hours. Looking at webpages and downloading stuff. Then, I glanced away from my laptop, and when I looked back, the internet was gone.
I quickly checked all the cables, and nothing was pulled loose. I looked at the router, and all the lights were off, so I check to ensure that the power cord was plugged in. I touched the power cord, and it was super hot.
Realizing that it was the powercord that caused the failure, I replaced it with a universal, properly configured for the router. An hour later, while downloading about 10 large files for work, all went dark.
It wasn't the power cord this time, it was the router. It had overheated. This device was poorly constructed, and is definately not for heavy use. I wouldn't advise using the power cord that comes with it, as it appears to me to be a fire hazard.
If your looking to buy a router, don't cheap out. This is the second cheap router I've bought, and I've regretted each one. I'm going back to Linksys, I've never had trouble with them. | |
