I hope they are not another Enron
Review By: monifa2003 on Dec. 21, 2005

Summary: I have been with ING for 3yrs now.I had a savings account and I recently opened a CD for my kids , I guess the only thing that scares me is if they pull an Enron on us ,there will be no physical building to picket, I hope to reach the FDIC limit this year,if I do I might just transfer to another bank with physical buildings , sounds silly but in the wake of all these scandals you cant trust any of theses institutions( yeah I know, even the ones that have branches all over ).If INGdirect crashed tomorrow we would have no recourse, sure they say they are FDIC insured but who knows

Great rates
Review By: Wach 20 on Sep. 13, 2004

Summary: I searched around the internet for awhile to try and find a bank that had a higher interest rate than the .4% I was currently getting at a traditional bank. When I saw ING Direct’s 2.2% rate I thought it was too good to be true. I did some further research and ING Direct is totally legit. There are no fees associated with the account and the minimum initial deposit is only $1. The reason ING can offer such high rates is because the only operate two brick and mortar banks so they eliminate the overhead of personal banking. Your account is linked to a checking account you already have at another bank, this allows you to access the money you have in your ING account.

Review By: rockysngo on Apr. 6, 2004

Summary: First let me start off by saying I am crazy when it comes to finding the best rates/deals. I will spend 3 hours on the Internet looking for the cheapest flight to Vegas, even if it only saves me $10. So trust me when I say ING Direct has the best interest rates out there.

I spent a few days researching the company, read every opinion on ING, and called everyone I know in the industry. ING is a legitimate worldwide business, has been operating in America for over 100 years, and is FDIC insured up to $100,000.

It only takes about 15 minutes to sign up, and all you need is a checking account to link to your ING account. Make sure you have your checking account number and bank's routing number (which you can find on your check) ready when you sign up. ING will then make two small deposits into your checking account, which will post in a day or two. Finally, you must verify these amounts in your ING account to start earning interest. That's it, just like signing up for a PayPal account.

No minimums. No fees. No transactions costs. No closing costs. I've already transferred money back and forth between my checking account and ING account, and it takes 2 business days (although they say it can take up to 3). And you get to watch your interest grow on a daily basis on-line! Pretty cool. The only thing they don't have is Bill-Pay, but most banks will give you that for free if you have direct deposit in your checking account. As long as you plan ahead, you can always keep a minimal amount in your checking account and maximum amount in ING to earn interest. Good luck and happy savings!

I have been reading this site for awhile now, and this is my first review so it should give you an idea of how highly I think of ING. Since I've only had the account for about a month, I haven't had to speak with anyone in Customer Service so I can't honestly comment on that topic. But after a few months I will write a follow-up with any positive/negative feedback.
