| | Save your money |
| Review By: Arin on Jul. 13, 2011 |
Summary: I rarely say this but: don't even bother.
It *sounds* like a great deal. Spend $25 & get $50 in gift certificates at a ton of great restaurants. That's what I thought too. We're all watching our pennies these days but we still want to enjoy our lives, right?
My goal was to have a wonderful dinner with my fella & celebrate our 2 year anniversary in style. I went to the site, read the terms & conditions for the restaurant we wanted to dine at carefully & purchased 4 gift certificates.
What they don't tell you is that you can only use ONE gift certificate for $25 for your party at a time, only ONCE PER MONTH per restaurant. (Even if you sit at separate tables & use separate checks!) This is not made clear to you until AFTER you've already made your purchase & printed out your gift certificates.
So how far do you think $25 goes at a fine dining establishment? Especially when you are REQUIRED to purchase at least 2 entrees & 18% gratuity is automatically added before you get the check.
There I was stuck with 4 gift certificates for the same place, in a town we don't live in, that would take 4 months to use. I immediately tried to contact customer service to see if something could be done, but of course they close on weekends. That left me & my sweetie to come up with another place to eat on what was left of our budget.
As if that weren't enough, when I called during the week I was put on hold for 20 minutes plus waiting to talk to anyone real about it. With a busy work schedule & home life it took me 4 tries to get through. The final time I gritted my teeth & waited on hold for nearly 30 minutes.
In short: DEEPLY UNIMPRESSED. Save your money, go to Groupon or Travelzoo or even Yelp, who often has deals for your favorite places. |

| Review By: pd on Apr. 12, 2011 |
Summary: Outstanding, hi-end restaurant easily costs us $100 for meal/wine for hubby & me. I buy $100 cert for $9...(2 entree minimum, no holidays). The same meal that would cost us $118 (100 + 18% tip) will now cost $27! ($9 for cert, $18 for tip). I SAVE $91! What is wrong with people? How is this not an incredible deal? If you dont think so, you are stupid, cheap or both - so go ahead to applebees or charlie brown where you will eat franchise food and pay more than $27. I agree w/the positive people who submit reviews - you are actually buying value - its up to you to read the fine print. Be careful tho...if you cant do the math you probably cant read either! |

| | GIft Givers Beware |
| Review By: Silverhammer on Apr. 8, 2011 |
Summary: A friend gave out 12 of these certificates for Christmas gifts, including one to me. My experience is that number of restaurants is severely limited and their list includes some that no longer honor the certificates. As others have stated, these are really discount coupons for a much larger minimum purchase. I was going to redeem them for gifts certificates for on-line merchants, but there were only 5 merchants to choose, and each required a large minimum purchase. My well-meaning friend did not understand these rules, as typical customers rarely read the fine print. Not great gifts. |

Summary: The food was horrible!! We had a party of four and we ordered two burgers, one philly cheese steak, and a side salad. The bread on the burgers were very greasy and soggy and the bread on the philly cheese steak was very hard. The food was sent back three times and finally I called the owner and when he got here he stated that it looked fine to him. And also the fries were dropped in the grease twice and so you can only imagine how they looked and tasted. I do not recommend this resturant to anybody and please let your friends know about this place. Again it is HORRIBLE!!!!!!! |

| | 8 years satisfied. . . |
| Review By: BruceinPA on Sep. 22, 2010 |
Summary: Nothing is perfect, but I have used Restaurant.com for about 8 years. I have bought literally hundreds of the certificates, used well more than a hundred myself, and gifted the rest to friends, customers, clients, and as premiums for silent auctions, etc. When we travel, I buy them on line where we are FOR where we are. YOU MUST UNDERSTAND THE SYSTEM! Minimums apply, and they are spelled out on the website BEFORE you buy! 18% Gratuity? Yup! It keeps the servers who are used to being stiffed by Entertainment Book users for half-tips. Keep the servers happy, it helps keep the restaurant owner happy, and they stay with the system. Some restaurants come and go quickly. It's NOT a quick-fix for a restaurant that's going under, so when a new restaurant comes online, try it quickly! You can tell whether they're almost-goners or not. If they DO go out of business, leaving you holding the unused certificate, Restaurant.com WILL exchange that certificate for a GIFT CERTIFICATE of the same value that can be used to purchase a certificate for another restaurant. You have to ask; it is not automatic. Oftentimes they don't KNOW a Restaurant has gone under until they are told. There are restaurants in my area that have been on the program since I started; it must work for them.
"Money for Nothing and Your Chicks for Free" is an illusion. This is a good deal, but it's not a giveaway. I'll keep using them.
BTW, Gift Certificates are the KEY to making this ALMOST a giveaway. Contact me and I'll tell you how. |

Summary: I don't understand why these people are freaking about restaurant.com certificates, whatever you are spending you would have spent anyway and you are getting $25 off which is especially good if you bought it For $2,like someone else said you must pay taxes and tip when you dine out and i agree that they should add the gratuity as it is these same people who stiff the server their rightfully earned tip.The question is if someone came up to you and gave you $25 cash , would you refuse it? The bottom line is this promo is a win win for everyone involved,The restaurant, the patron and restaurant.com, people stop being petty and look at the bigger picture. This is really a great opportunity to try out new restaurants,Kudos restaurant.com |

| | SCAM - Restaurant.com used certificate 4-10-2010 |
| Review By: JT review on 4-10-2010 on Apr. 10, 2010 |
Summary: I called the restaurant beforehand to make sure that they were still honoring the gift certificates from restaurant.com with the $35 minimum purchase and the 18% gratuity. When we finally got the but ALSO TAXED the gratuity amount. I can understand that the "total food" amount would be taxed but who ever heard of taxing on the tip? It is the principal of the matter. The server bought some sheet to show me that that's the policy but did not actually let me read it. Then the manager came over and tried to explain the reasoning & he did not actually let me read the sheet either. He said that the software was set up to do that & I actually saw where they charge 15% gratuity for parties of 8 or more but restaurant.com states that there will be an 18% gratuity charge. What a rip-off this restaurant.com!!!!!! :-( You do not get the bargain you thought you are getting. Summary: As someone who has worked in the industry for 15 years I'm disgusted at all he opposition to gratuity being added before the discount! They do it to ensure the service staff doesn't get screwed by cheap, ignorant people that should be eating fastfood instead of in nice restaurants. Some people don't think about the fact that they should be tipping on the original bill which results in the server loosing money because of YOUR deal. Get over it, Restaurant.com is an AWESOME deal for intelligent diners and if you disagree then you don't deserve the discount to begin with! |

| | Do your Math first before you purchase the gift certificate |
| Review By: Met on Feb. 28, 2010 |
Summary: I bought 3 coupons at restaurant.com thinking it's a great deal with 80% off the price. So we used one coupon today which is the $25 with a minimum order of $35 on food only. Between the 2 of us we spent $45 on food and $5.75 on drinks. With the force 18% gratuity plus sales tax I have to pay $37 which is almost the same amount as what I have to pay for the required minimum to use the gift certificate. So you better think twice and do the math before you buy a gift certificate especially with all the restrictions especially if you are not familiar with the restaurant.
Now, I have to think twice if I want to use my $50 gift certificate with a $100 minimum order which I'm calculating about $25 force gratuity based on the total bill before discount and also not including sales tax. |

I called customer service and they were unable to solve the problem. Said they will have a 'supervisor' call me... (Who? When?) Hope someone does, or else I will also dispute it with my credit card and make sure everyone knows about it. The rep asked me how do I know my confirmation number when I gave it to her!! I received an e-mail confirming my purchase the same day and she didn't know we receive that? Or is she implying I am lying/stealing? She said there is no way to know if the card was used already!! | Review By: wannawasteyourmoney? on Jan. 30, 2010 |
Summary: My mother in law gave my husband and I 4 coupons for our anniversary, my brother then gave us 2 for Christmas. They have all been terrible. The first one we were finally able to use after trying for a month - read the fine print, if an event is being held nearby it may be invalid. Also, for another restaurant it is not valid in Januray...ok, makes no sense. Another place - a wine bar, does not let you use it for WINE. Now granted a lot of places don't let you use it for alcohol...but a wine bar? What's the point? It's difficult to order $35 worth of chips and salsa.... And tonight we attempted to make reservations at another place only to find out that the restaurant no longer accepts restaurant.com coupons....we were told that they contacted the website to stop selling them but we just checked and they are indeed selling them. So that was a great waste of money our family paid to give us gifts that are completely unusable. There seems to be no sort of cooperation between the restaurants and the website. |

| Review By: steph1278 on Nov. 23, 2009 |
Summary: You can get some amazing deals on this site (we got a $25 coupon for $3 for a local pizza place), but as with anything, you have to do your homework first. Read the fine print and CALL THE RESTAURANT! It lists the address and phone number right underneath the name. Before you click "purchase", spend a few seconds to call and make sure they still take it. Because we spent $3 on the certificate, we really saved $22 instead of $25, but it still turned out to be a very good deal. Since we tip 20% anyway, the added 18% gratuity wasn't really an issue. And we have 5 people in our family, so the minimum $35 purchase really wasn't a problem either. I would definitely use this site again, but will still continue to do my homework first. |

| | Watch out for restaurant.com - restaurants make not accept GCs |
| Review By: G. Host on Jul. 26, 2009 |
Summary: Warning: restaurant.com refuses to remove restaurants from its website which customers report are no longer accepting gift certificates (generated coupons).
An example is:
Kabul Kabob
6802 Commerce St
Springfield, VA 22150
(703) 451-3373
I reported months ago that they would not accept it anymore but restaurant.com has not removed it. I had to pay full price for meal and I added items just to make minimum. Some restaurants listed on their website are no longer in business. It appears from their reaction (who cares, we gave you credit) they would rather have more restaurants listed than happy customers - I will not purchase until they change policy. I had purchased almost 30 coupons from them and have not since. Always, always ask restaurant first.

| | They are selling coupons, not gift certificate |
| Review By: calltenten on Jul. 9, 2009 |
Summary: 1. Too many restrictions make it more like a coupon, not certificate. Ex. min. purchase, 18% tips, Valid Mon through Thur only....etc
2. Expect to save just a little if you use the coupon.
Ex. If min. purchase $50 and 18% tip are required by the restaurant, your bill is right on $50. So you have to pay total $65 (10%tax, 18%tip). With a $25 coupon, you have to pay $40 extra. If you spend $10 on the coupon, the total cost of your meal is $50. Totally not a good deal. |

| | READ THE FINE PRINT |
| Review By: weaverkc on Oct. 14, 2008 |
Summary: I have had great experiences with restaurant.com.... the certificates are a great deal especailly if you use a coupon code. You can pick from restaurants pretty much anywhere which is nice when traveling. Before I choose a restaurant I do my homework and read reviews and I try to check out the menue so I can choose an apropriate amount for the certificate as you are requiered a minimum perchase at the restaurant.
For those of you that have said your charge card has been unwillingly charged. READ THE FINE PRINT!!! don't just click click click... read what you are clicking... it specificly says "allowing us to give your billing information to...." anyone with half a brain would probably not want that to happen. Simply click on 'no, continue with restaurant.com purchase" You have to be skeptical and read everything with any online purchase!
This is a great way to save money for something you would do anyway!!! And its also a nice way to try out a new restaurant... check out the food, the service, everything without paying an arm and a leg. The dinner of the month club is a great gift and as I said before becuase the certificates can be printed for almost any area they have made great gifts for retiered friends who spend half their time local and half their time in FL!!! |

| | Works for me-for now |
| Review By: ya on Aug. 8, 2008 |
Summary: Let me start by saying that even after having used this service several times, I still maintain the mentality that this is too good to be true. If one day, my certificates aren't accepted at a restaurant, I wouldn't be too disappointed cuz really, it's too good to be true anyway.
I've bought about 5 gift certificates from Restaurant.com and so far, have used 4. All 4 places took them without a problem, but I do call ahead to make sure that 1) the restaurant accepts the certificate and 2) to check about any restrictions. It seems to be a hassle for the restaurants to accept them-probably because of the horrible customer service I keep reading about. I actually bought 2 certificates for one of the restaurants, but immediately after we used our first one, that restaurant stopped accepting the gift certificates (it was probably too much trouble for them). I was supposed to be refunded for my 2nd gift certificate by restaurant.com, but I never was. I don't mind too much because I get very good deals on these things. There's often a coupon available to get 50% or more off the price of the certificate (so a $25 gc sells for $5). I figure I've saved plenty of money just using these. Hopefully I'll never have to call customer service. I'm hoping to give a ton of these away as gifts during the holidays later this year-hopefully they'll work without a problem.
And yes, most of the restaurants are just average and badly in need of customers. But we did happen to find 2 good ones in our area near NYC (Mother Kelly's & Nanking). |

| | Horrible customer service, shady business practices, BAD certificates! |
| Review By: igzat on May. 15, 2008 |
 Summary:
Restaurant.com is in big trouble, they are losing restaurants by the truckload. Make sure to use any certificates you purchase within a week or less, or risk being denied.
Last three restaurants I went to with a certificate denied them, and two managers spoke to me about Restaurant.com's shady business practices, and how they don't compensate the restaurant owners.
Oh, and it's next to impossible to get a refund for bad certificates too. You'll likely have to do a chargeback for any bad certificates. They absolutely refuse to refund customers for bad certificates.
Not only that, but they failed three times to contact me when restaurants had dropped them. I had to waste my time going to the restaurant only to be embarrassed when the owner refused to take the certificate and complained to me about the bad business practices of Restaurant.com. This happened three times in two months!!
Customer service is rude and unhelpful, and like talking to a wall.
If you absolutely must use Restaurant.com best thing you can do is call the restaurant before purchasing and make sure they have no trouble accepting the certificates. And even then go within a week of your purchase. There are multiple restaurants dropping Restauant.com, I live in the city and I see the choices getting smaller and smaller every month.
I give Restaurant.com ONE out of FIVE stars.

Summary: After spending full gift amount I was unable to print certificates. I now have $0 in my account and no proof of my purchase. My account does not list the purchase. Customer service is not available on weekend so we can't use certificate this weekend. $50 cash should be worth $50 cash w/o all the restrictions previous reviewers have noted. I'm sure the service makes a considerable profit on unredeemed certificates.
DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE. |

| | It seemed pretty overrated to me |

Summary: The concept of restaurants.com was really exceptional when I printed out my first $25 certificate for $10 dollars. Well then there was $35 minimum and a 18% gratuity, does not include alcohol. So when you do the math as to how much the tab comes out to, in conjunction to the $10 prepayment I came out of pocket $40 on a $43 bill. That makes zero since. Because we were like $3.00 short so we had to order something else, but you pay taxes on the whole thing. It just seemed a bit complicated to me. Since I did get a FREE gift certificate I am going to use that one to see if I have a better experience. |

Summary: The NYC restaurant pickings are slim and chances of finding a really good restaurant is slimmer... As much as I like the idea and the concept, there's really no restaurants I want to go to. The ones I have been to they've been disappointing, even after reading 3rd party reviews on them.
I'm starting to think they have restaurants that desperately needs customers as the ones I've been to the food has been less than average... |

Summary: This service seemed like such a great idea when I heard of it. And it is a great concept, but the implementation is horrid and causes customers more hassle than the savings are worth.
I have bought a total of 4 gift certificates from restaurant.com within the past year. The first 2 were for a sushi restaurant for a savings of $10 each (one for a friend and one for myself), with the qualifier that they may be used for parties of 2 or more. The first time that we went out to the sushi restaurant was with about 6-7 other people and we thought we would be able to use both. Wrong! They only accepted one. That problem was fairly minor, and we eventually used the other one later.
The other 2 certificates were for a $10 savings at an Indian restaurant and for a $25 savings at a Middle Eastern restaurant. I gave the $10 certificate to my dad, and when he tried to use it, they refused to accept it, saying that the certificate had expired (it clearly had not since it was valid for upto a year and no other clauses in the certificate stated anything contrary to that). By now, I had gotten a bit smarter and called the Middle Eastern restaurant before going there to see if they would accept my certificate ($25 off for parties of at least 4 OR with purchase of $35). They told me that they would not accept the certificate even if we spent over $35 - they had changed the rules and in order to use the certificate, we would have had to order 4 entrees.
Frustrated, I called Restaurant.com and demanded a refund for the last two restaurants, which they did - to the wrong credit card! I had to call back again and have them credit the correct account. I got the impression that the blokes running this service are highly unprofessional and lacking any sort of good business sense. I am still waiting for my refund.
Even though I am extremely financially conscious, the hassle that I had to put up with from restaurant.com's gift certificate is not worth the savings at all! |

Summary: Restaurant.com does offer gift certificates for restaurants and great prices. There is a downside -- their availability and their customer service. For example, a restaurant was listed as having a $25 for $10. Those gift certificates were out of stock. The next day, they were available, but now for $19. When the price dropped back to $10, again, out of stock. This appears to be the pattern for their popular restaurants and is far too common for a coincidence.
I emailed customer service several times but received no reply. Although the gift certificates DO work, their customer service is non-existant and it seems that they are price gauging for the popular restaurants. |
